Basic Functions of Zilla Parishad:

• Providing essential services and facilities in rural areas.
• Making seeds available to farmers. Also to inform about improved and new technologies useful for agriculture.
• Establishing schools and libraries in rural areas and running them properly.
• Setting up primary health centers and hospitals in rural areas. Also to carry out preventive vaccination program to prevent epidemic diseases from time to time.
• Implementation of development schemes for SC-ST people in rural areas. Running ashram schools for tribal children and establishing free hostels for tribal students.
• Encouraging entrepreneurs to start small scale industries to generate rural employment.
• Construction and maintenance of bridges, roads and other public facilities in rural areas.
• Creating employment.
